About

Concept

To celebrate the New Year 2023, Year of the rabbit, with the combination of Bangkok Design Week under the theme “Urban “Nice” zation” – Nice for Diversity – We decided to use the theme of Gender Diversity to act as the core of our installation.

Project Background

Bangkok Bunny Boys is an installation project based on the merging of the three concepts from the PhD students in Design Arts, Silpakorn University, which involve gender diversity, superstitious beliefs, and reflections. The photographic and visuals show a combination of masculinity, femininity and gender expression fluidity. While the output aim to modernize the material from the traditional “Fortune Sticks” to a new material that plays with light and space.

The Urbanizations of Beliefs

The modernization of fortune sticks in design is a way to preserve and celebrate the traditional Chinese divination method while also incorporating it into contemporary styles and trends. By updating the design of fortune sticks, artists and designers are able to pay tribute to their cultural heritage while also creating something new and fresh. This can help to introduce the tradition to a new audience and keep it relevant in today’s society.
